Hon Kho Island stands as one of the most untouched and exhilarating dive sites in South Phu Quoc.

• Location: Situated approximately 18km from An Thoi Port. As a small islet where only the rocky pinnacle emerges from the sea, it offers divers a true “open ocean” exploration feel.

• Conservation Status: The ecosystem is strictly protected within the Kien Giang Biosphere Reserve, ensuring the reef remains in its most natural and healthy state.

II. Depths & Characteristic Diving Conditions

The Hon Kho dive site offers a versatile depth profile that creates a sense of adventure for every diver:

• Depth Range: Varying from 3 meters to 20 meters, with a comfortable average of 5–10 meters. This makes it a premier choice for both Snorkeling and Scuba Diving.

• Special Conditions: Visibility typically reaches 5–15 meters during the dry season (October – April).

• The Drift Experience: This area is known for its moderate to strong currents, which act as a magnet for larger marine life and provide an exciting Drift Diving experience for those looking to glide effortlessly with the ocean’s flow.

• Suitability: Welcoming for all levels, but highly recommended for divers looking to experience current-based environments.

The corals at Hon Kho are the soul of the site, forming a breathtaking “Underwater Glass Garden”:

• Biodiversity: Home to over 200 species of hard and soft corals.

• Key Highlights:

  • Hard Corals: Explore winding Brain Corals that look like underwater labyrinths, expansive Table Corals providing shelter for reef fish, and towering Tube Corals.

  • Soft Corals: Vibrant Branching Corals and Mushroom Corals add splashes of color, while Sea Fans and Whip Corals sway elegantly in sync with the currents.

• Tropical Reef Fish: Spot schools of Pink Anemonefish (Nemo) nestled in anemones, alongside shimmering Butterflyfish and Parrotfish. Large schools of Fusiliers and Damselfish often surround divers in a silver cloud.

• Macro Life & Mollusks: Discover hidden crabs, tiny shrimp, and masterfully camouflaged Cuttlefish that change colors in the blink of an eye.

• Macro Highlights: Rare Nudibranchs (sea slugs) such as the vivid purple Godiva and the undulating red-orange Spanish Dancer.

• Large Species: Encounter Moray Eels, giant Groupers, Pufferfish, Blue-spotted Stingrays, and occasionally Bamboo Sharks resting beneath rocky overhangs.
